Living along the Ring of Fire, the mountains surrounding me provide beautiful wilderness to explore and backdrop to my view when at home, but a menace lurks underneath their towering stability. Molten rock slides through passages deep within the earth, forced through the surface when constrained.
Volcanoes are as much about creation as they are destruction. They offer a symbolism rich in meaning about the cycle of transformation. Unseen movement, growth, emergence, explosion. Rebirth.
Volcanic craters note where vents exist within the earth, providing an outlet for magma to emerge to the surface. In this piece, patinaed copper rests in sterling silver craters, draping beautifully on the neck. Fabricated.
